Amber with Austin

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Pablo Neruda said, “All paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are." Making art is an expression of what I am, and I use my various tools and materials in my art to show how encompassing and full of possibilities these conveyances are. Currently, my deep interest is in the status of the “natural,” grounded in lived experience. I am interested in how one’s understanding of the natural has shifted over time. I am interested in what is natural now. When I paint a subject I feel as if I am fortunate to experience an intimate knowledge of it. This relationship is the primary driving force behind my art work.

However, it is not just a means to my own end. In its creation it is the reality of what I am actually capable of at that moment. It is there that I attempt to express an authentic visual dialogue that is colorful, fresh, and magical that creates a connection with the viewer. I feel as though I have the opportunity to take someone into a place they have seen before and give them a different perspective. I would like people to feel as if they can be part of another world. To see beauty and simplicity within that complexity.

My goal is to have my work capture the personality of a subject in a painterly fashion. My paintings give me a feeling of accomplishment and an opportunity to share my mind's vision of the inner beauty of the subject. Each piece is a small recorded step in understanding the world around me and finding its beauty.

ARTIST BIO:

A native of Atlanta, Amber Lowe has been involved with the visual arts since she was five years old. Even at such a young age she displayed a natural talent and love of visual expression, whether it was with paint, pencil or crayon. Accomplishing her first oil painting of her teddy bear when she was 7, Amber always gravitated towards painting the things she loved most.

Amber’s work matured and was recognized for its great potential during her teenage years. Her work was published in two literary publications and shown at the prestigious High Museum of Art and also in a private group show at Perimeter Corners Gallery in Atlanta.
During the 1990s Amber dedicated most of her time to web and computer graphic design, but in the spring of 2001 after becoming very ill, Amber once again began working in fine art with art therapy. Shortly after her re-emergence in the art world, Amber's work was published on the front and back cover of BARKS magazine.
Her paintings have a very distinct look because Amber was primarily self-taught. Proclaiming herself a contemporary fauvist, Amber considers her work's primary focus to be pets and nature, though she does enjoy painting other subjects for variety and challenge. When painting animals, she aims to celebrate each one of their unique and vibrant lives through her artwork.

Amber works in a variety of mediums including oil pastel, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, & soft pastel. Currently her medium of choice is acrylic with oil pastel. She loves the way it has such bold color and blends so easily, giving her work more drama and energy. Her artwork is currently part of numerous private collections around the country and world.
